In 1915, Sharp’s founder invented the “Ever-Sharp Pencil,” a mechanical pencil from which the Sharp Corporation derives its name.
There are many other firsts in Sharp’s growing list. In 1931, as radio was gaining popularity around the world, Sharp began research into television, releasing the first Japanese television in 1953. Sharp’s bright colors and high-quality LCD images hit the screen in 1987 with the first 3” color LCD TV. Just 4 years later, Sharp released the world’s first wall-hanging TV, beginning the era of large-screen LCD televisions.
